I would hope that no one would have mistaken me as saying Work is bad from last week’s article. I was not saying that at all. I was only saying that too much work is bad, especially if it is taking away time from God. If work were a bad thing to do, he wouldn’t have given Adam anything to do before the first sin, but he does...
“The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” -Gen. 2:15
You might be saying at this time, “But I don’t have a Job.” The majority of you that actually read this article (it might actually be the other way around... where the parents are reading more than the kids) are still in school, and that is your work. Also whatever you set out to do is work. Anything that busies your life is work as defined by this article from here on out.
Part of the Sabbath commandment is “Six days you shall labor and do all your work” (Ex. 20:9). Take a look in a Concordance and look up the word “work” in Proverbs. There is lots of great verses on work there.
Take these words from Paul into consideration...
“In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow.  For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”
We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. ”
-2Th. 3:6-13
I honestly believe God has given us a joy to work. We get satisfaction from the work of our hands and see the results of our labor. Work is good. Just don’t let it become an obsession and take over the more important things in life. Find something you enjoy doing and make that your work. God has blessed us with differing gifts. Remember the building of the Tabernacle in Exodus, and the Wall in Nehemiah? God gave those talents to the people to work. Discover your God given talents and work hard with them.
